Charlotte Brontë was an influential English novelist and poet, best known for her novels Jane Eyre, Shirley, Villette, and The Professor. Born in 1816 in Thornton, Yorkshire, she was the third of six children in a literary family. Her works often explore themes of social class, gender roles, and the complexities of human emotion. Jane Eyre, her most famous work, is celebrated for its strong, complex female protagonist and its blend of Gothic, romance, and social commentary. Brontë's life was marked by personal tragedy, including the early deaths of her mother and siblings, which deeply influenced her writing. She published under the pen name "Currer Bell" to avoid the gender biases of her time, and her work has since become a cornerstone of English literature, admired for its depth, emotion, and enduring relevance.
